After completing its championship first season, Rhythm X Winds looks to level up by promoting Steve Mason to ensemble coordinator.

“My number one focus for [next] season is to make sure the educational experience that our members receive isn’t just about learning a show and performing it, but about being better musicians, better students, and better people,” said Mason. “Coming from a drum corps background, I am super excited about our woodwind section. I think WGI winds is the perfect medium to feature woodwinds in a way that is simply impossible on a football field and I think Rhythm X is the perfect place for woodwind players to show off their skills and talents. I am thrilled to be a part of this incredible organization again, and am looking forward to seeing where this activity goes.”

Mason was involved in the Rhythm X staff as a winds specialist during the 2015 season, but has been tapped to succeed Jimmy Blakenship as ensemble coordinator for 2016. Blakenship will continue to work with the Rhythm X educational team through 2016, joining Matt Harloff – brass caption head at Carolina Crown – who will return in 2016 as a consultant.

“The success of our inaugural season of Winds was possible because of our incredible team of instructors,” said
Rhythm X President Tim Fairbanks, “We’re excited to see the team return and to have Steve take on this new
role.”

Rhythm X Percussion will also shuffle the deck on staff, adding long-time members Tommy Roam and Michael Tant to the instructional team as bass and tenor instructors respectively.

“Tommy and Michael are two incredible individuals with a wealth of talent. At Rhythm X, Inc. we always
want to have a passionate and dynamic team and these guys were a clear choice,” said CEO Mike Scott.

Lane Summerlin, front ensemble coordinator for the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps and doctoral candidate at Ohio State University, will also join the Rhythm X educational team as a front ensemble instructor.
