The annual business meetings for Drum Corps International got underway today at The Alexander Hotel in Indianapolis to discuss, among other things, the encouraging growth in the drum corps activity.

More than 100 attendees heard reports that point to promising improvement in participation, event attendance and revenue. Proof points offered to the group included:

  • The addition of seven new Open Class groups in 2014, with five more currently going through the approval process for competition in 2015.
  • Ticket sales for DCI World Championships Finals are up 30 percent from this time last year.
  • Sales for DCI Southeastern Championships in Atlanta are also 30 percent ahead of this same time last year.
  • Hotel rooms for DCI World Championships are reported to be filling up at a record pace.

John DeNovi, DCI’s senior director of global business development, also reported that SoundSport and DrumLine Battle programs are continuing to grow internationally, with nine international ensembles planning to make the trek to Indianapolis this summer for DCI World Championships.

DCI also previewed plans for a new digital content delivery platform, which senior director of marketing Bob Jacobs says will better integrate the DCI Fan Network to provide a markedly improved user experience. To complete the project, DCI is partnering with an online video company to roll out the new DCI.org before the start of the 2015 DCI Tour.

Directors were treated to a conversation with the director of “The Commandant’s Own,” The United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps.
